A fresh PhD cannot supervise PhD as the main supervisor for the 1st three years after his/her PhD, but he/she can Co-Supervise during those three years.
A fresh MS/MPhil degree holder cannot supervise MPhil/MS Thesis till he/she gets at least four years’ research/teaching experience after obtaining his/her MS/MPhil degree.
PhD eligible supervisor can supervise maximum up to 05 PhD Dissertation and/or 07 MS/MPhil Thesis subject to his/her other workload.
MS/MPhil eligible supervisor can supervise maximum up to 05 MS/MPhil thesis subject to his/her other academic/research/admin work load.
Supervisor & Co-supervisor has a parallel role. Although the main Supervisor has a major role to play but both main Supervisor & Co-supervisors should be on same page.
Student is supposed to meet the main Supervisors as well as co-supervisors from time to time and submit the progress report as satisfactory or unsatisfactory (whatever relevant) at the end of each semester and maintain all the meetings log. Student is expected to have 15 meetings with the main Supervisor and few meetings with the Co-Supervisor too.
Student has a choice to choose the supervisor from his relevant field within the University. He/She has also freedom to withdraw or change the Supervisor through his/her written request on a performa designed submitted through the relevant HoD and Dean.
As per HEC Policy, students are not allowed to register with a Supervisor from outside the university as a main supervisor. He/She can opt for co-supervisor, outside the university if required with the permission of relevant HoD, Dean and OGS Office if he/she is eligible.
